Way of working
Painting for me is a purely intuitive action. I empty my mind a bit, and let the work grow/arise like a process. Coincidence can play a main role. Very important is that I love materials and I like to work with my hands. I make my own frameworks, fasten the fabric on the window and prepare that. Before I start painting, I mix my own paint, with or without sand, thickeners or other materials. Only then starts the creative proces of painting. I paint mostly planes or squares, correct those areas or just paint them all over again and this way I create a layer by layer painting. There is not a fixed plan in advance. My paintings are completed in itself, sometimes serene, next time quite raw. My main inspiration or rather,my medium, is nature.
Past and present.
In my life, nature has always been very important. I lived and worked on the land: I was herd of goates, cheese and wine-maker, I baked my own bread in a brick oven with wood I found on the land myself. I kept pigs, chicken, goats and bees. I built animalcages myself, and so I was directly involved in nature. I have lived on the countryside of Montalto (Italy) and St.Michielsgestel. (Holland)
At this moment the most important for me is my artistic level, I still live in a rural setting at the foot of the Loonse and Drunense Dunes, experiencing the wonder of nature, the space, that stimulates me to paint.
My interest is mainly modern and contemporary art. Old masters such as Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Juan Miro, and Mondriane intrigue me enormously also like artists of a later stage as Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and many others.
